KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dr. Greg Mathien, former student and orthopaedic resident with SUNY Upstate Medical University, has been named the 2025 SEC Team Physician of the Year for Orthopedics. Dr. Mathien, a Buffalo, NY native, is the Senior Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the University of Tennessee athletic programs and is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer for Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic (KOC). He has been an orthopedic team physician at the University of Tennessee for 33 years, and has been a significant driver in the expansion of the KOC sports medicine program throughout Knox County.
