Dr. Stephen A. Albanese was recently recognized at the SUNY Upstate Medical University Fall Faculty Convocation as a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor for his dedication to the Upstate Medical University Campus, the Central New York region, the state of New York, and across the nation. At this event, over twenty awards were given, honoring contributions to Professional Service, Research and Diversity, and Philanthropic Service.
Dr. Albanese has played an increasingly significant role in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery since joining the faculty in 1986. Throughout his career, he has served in many executive leadership roles, including Department of Orthopedic Surgery chair since 2000, and orthopedic surgery residency program director from 2000 to 2021. He has served on national orthopedic boards and committees, including terms as president of the American Board of Orthpaedic Surgery and Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. At Upstate he has been involved in a multitude of activities in the hospital, university, and community, all while providing expert pediatric orthopedic care to his patients and their families.
