Upstate Medical University’s Swift Knee and Swift Hip program was recently highlighted for its exponential growth since implementation five years ago. Upstate Orthopedics’ surgeons (featured left to right) Dr. Emil Azer, Dr. Zachary Telgheder, Dr. Timothy Damron, and Dr. Robert Sherman, perform Swift knee and hip procedures in which eligible patients have joint replacement surgery at Upstate Community Hospital and are released to go home on the same day. This program was started in 2018, but with some of the challenges brought about in 2020 (including hospital bed shortages), the Swift program adapted and began to flourish.
