The Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) recognized Dr. Robert Cady with its 2021 Humanitarian Award for his ongoing work in Haiti treating patients with clubfeet. Dr. Cady has been instrumental in the establishment of clubfoot clinics throughout Haiti that are managed by Haitian cast technicians, administrators, and Haitian orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Cady makes multiple annual trips to Haiti in support of these programs.
Dr. Cady is a graduate of Upstate Medical School and Orthopedic Surgery residency. He completed a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto before returning to join the faculty at Upstate where he led the development of the pediatric orthopedic service. He recruited pediatric orthopedic surgeons including John Lubicky, a nationally prominent pediatric orthopedic surgeon, and current Department Chair Stephen Albanese. The efforts of Dr. Cady at Upstate established the foundation for today’s Upstate Pediatric Orthopedic program that offers advanced care to the children of Central New York.
Upstate Orthopedics congratulates Dr. Cady for his award and all of his contributions to Upstate. The Orthopedic Department remains indebted to him for his leadership in pediatric orthopedics.
