Dr. Zachary Telgheder is the latest addition to the growing team of orthopedic specialists at Upstate Orthopedics. Dr. Telgheder specializes in orthopedic trauma surgery. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Dr. Telgheder went on to earn his medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He also completed his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University followed by an orthopedic trauma and post-traumatic reconstruction fellowship at Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, Florida.
Dr. Telgheder specializes in the treatment of traumatic orthopedic injuries. The scope of his practice ranges from the care of patients with simple fractures managed non-operatively, to the multi-injured patient with complex fractures involving joints of the upper and lower extremities as well as the pelvis. He also specializes in the reconstruction of bones and joints due to prior fracture or due to arthritis. Dr. Telgheder has had extensive training in the treatment of pelvis and acetabular fractures as well as fractures involving the joints of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle, and foot. He has also received training in joint replacement surgery. Dr. Telgheder is particularly interested in the care of severely injured patients with complex fractures and takes great pride in caring for patients of Central New York with these life-altering injuries. In addition to caring for acute injuries, his practice includes the treatment of bone and joint infections, hip and knee joint replacement, post-traumatic reconstruction, and complex fractures that progress to nonunion or malunion.
Dr. Telgheder’s research interests include basic science, clinical, and surgical education research. His prior research interests have included outcomes after fractures of the lower extremities, outcomes following knee replacement after prior fracture, and technical descriptions of surgical techniques. He will be working closely with the scientists at The Institute for Human Performance at Upstate Medical Center in both clinical and basic science research, as well as working with residents to analyze outcomes after injuries. Dr. Telgheder is also very excited to work in an academic setting and is looking forward to contributing to education for residents and medical students.
